Books in Homes Assembly

Visiting author Jan Latta sharing her experiences with the students.

Last week we hosted our second Books in Homes Assembly for the year.

Students from Doonside Public School are privileged to receive 9 brand new books each year through the Books in Homes program.

Since 2001, Books in Homes has distributed in excess of a million new books across Australia. We are very lucky to be one of the schools chosen to receive these books.

The books which students receive are sponsored by a company called Mainfreight, and we welcomed the visitors from Mainfreight to our assembly – Filipine Vave and Steve Butler.

The special guest speaker for the day was Jan Latta. She is the author, wildlife photographer and publisher of the ‘True to Life Books' series. She follows wild animals every day, taking photographs and writing about them in their natural habitats. Jan has travelled to Africa eight times, China and Borneo twice, and also to India. Students were fascinated to hear some of her stories about her travels, and watch her entertaining videos.

A very exciting day for students at Doonside Public School who all went home with 3 new books to read.

You can read more about Jan Latta and her books on her website www.truetolifebooks.com.au
