The Importance of Whole Day Attendance

Arriving at school and class on time is critical in ensuring children do not miss important learning opportunities. It gives students time to settle in, receive important messages and have information explained to them appropriately. It teaches students routines, work habits and responsibility.

Regular attendance is a Department of Education legal requirement.

When students have been absent a note is required within two days explaining the reason for an absence. Not all reasons given are justified.  Even if an absence is justified, the day off is recorded as an absence and this contributes to a students overall attendance rate.

Please contact the school if there are issues effecting your child's attendance. Doonside Public School aims to work with families to support children regularly attending school.

Significant non attendance can be considered educational neglect under Child Protection guidelines and schools are mandatory reporters of child welfare issues. The following attachment and Compulsory Attendance (pdf 129 KB) links provide further information.Schools NSW and   Community Services NSW
